I had the opportunity to participate as an Invited Speaker at the 7th Financial Narrative Processing Workshop (FNP 2026), held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain as part of LREC 2026.
FNP has become one of the leading international venues for research on Financial Natural Language Processing (Financial NLP), bringing together academics and practitioners working on the analysis, extraction, summarization, and interpretation of financial narratives using AI and language technologies.
In my invited talk, Bridging the Gap Between Academia and Industry in AI: Why Papers Are No Longer Enough [Slides], I discussed how generative AI is challenging traditional notions of scientific impact and accelerating the need for new forms of research evaluation. The presentation explored topics such as AI-generated science, benchmark design, trustworthy evaluation, multilingual and domain-specific datasets, efficient AI models, and technology transfer. Using examples from both academic research and industrial deployments, I argued that impactful AI research should be measured not only through publications, but also through real-world adoption, evaluation frameworks, specialized datasets, and deployable systems that create tangible value.
It was a pleasure to contribute to a workshop that continues to play a key role in advancing the field of Financial NLP and fostering collaboration between researchers and industry professionals across the world.
